Hi, I'm Holly. I'm not really sure who my mommy and daddy were but don't let my bio fool you, I'm much taller and prettier than a cattle dog. If you asked me, I kinda look like a smooth Collie body with a touch of Beagle in my face, but what do I know? I weigh about 45 pounds and I'm not quite 24' tall at the top of my back. I'm quite slender and very light on my feet. I'm always game for walks and LOVE nearly everyone one I meet. Of course, my foster mom says this does pose some challenges, but I've been in my foster home for three days, and we've managed along beautifully. I was in a tiny little cage at the shelter for 6 whole weeks before I went to live in the best place ever -- a real home -- but it has not affected my happy-go-lucky attitude at all! Even though it is not my forever home, I have so much fun playing with the other dogs here, and I even love the cats. They sometimes swat at me when I am too eager, but I know they love me so I forgive them. I warm up really fast to every person I meet, even the little ones, and I love to be loved on. I get to go outside and play a lot, and am learning to do my business out there too. He walks very well on a leash but one must be gentle and patient while hooking it up to his collar, he is a little fearful if nudged or tugging him so I've been getting down to his level when I attach the two together. He doesn't do stairs yet but think if presented to him with training he will eventually go up and down them without being fearful. He is a little skiddish so I avoided loud banging of pots and pans and the such since I could tell this frightened him and he'd run away. He enjoys sitting at the windows looking outside and learned the sound of my car engine as I would come home and was there to greet me with lots of kisses and excitement. He is so endearing and will make an excellent pet for anyone who he can trust that will show him love and attention. He sleeps very well during the night and slept at the foot of my bed where I surrounded him with big pillows on all sides so he wouldn't fall off during the night but the little guy doesn't move all night long, he sleeps soundly and enjoys a nap or two during the day. I had wee-wee pads down on my floor but so far it's been 5 days that he's been with me and not a single accident. He is good with other dogs, but I was very careful to have him warm up to them first with both me and the others on leashes to ensure his safety. He barks when the doorbell rings but otherwise his personality is so much more loving than aggressive. He is not a yapper at all. I don't have kids at home but do think that anyone he can trust who will show him love and attention will become his immediate friend and playmate. I have had him outside on a leash when a cat has come lurking by and don't think he's as much afraid of them as he wanted to chase it. I highly recommend Sam as the perfect dog for adoption so he can ease into a permanent home and be as loving to you as he's been to me. He's been such a delight with me and hope and pray that he gets a forever home quickly, he's got the best little personality once he gets to know his surroundings and trusts those caring for him. Onyx is a bit of a special needs girl. She appears to have had a spinal cord injury in the past, but we're not sure when - possibly right around the time she was picked up from animal control, because the neighbors talked about her being hit by a car. This affects her hind end some. She walks/runs with a little bit of a shuffling gait, but I wouldn't call her mobility impaired at all. We live in a three story townhome and she goes up and down the stairs with no problem at all. Her tail doesn't move a whole lot, so sometimes people think she's not happy - but she's a REALLY happy girl. The injury has also affected her bladder/bowel control. ... (Read More)She is not completely incontinent, and seems to be able to control when she urinates, but when she gets excited, she has to go. Some of that also may have to do with the urinary tract infection that we are treating. The same goes for her bowels. Since I've been fostering her, she seems to be improving and getting stronger. The vet also thinks that with time she will develop more control over these things. Again, she has improved a lot since I've started fostering her and I think we're kind of getting a way to manage it with the type of food, timing of things, etc. I do put her in diapers at night and sometimes during the day - just to make sure :) There is nothing special needs about her personality at all. In spite of the other issues, I would really call her a low maintenance dog. She loves to cuddle and sit with you, but isn't needy at all. Freddy is a super sweet and loving little boy who came to us frightened, too skinny, and intact. We have been working on making him feel safe, fattened him up, and got him neutered. We think Freddy was abused because he often looks over his shoulder or out of the corner of his eye and also cowers down when someone reaches down to pick him up or pet him. Because he does not like the adoption center (he gets scared and then tries to act like a tough guy), he doesn't show well there. One thing Freddy does that is really cute is that when you first come home from being gone or when you first wake up in the morning, he jumps up and down and smiles at you--literally shows his teeth to where he looks like he is smiling! He also has a little patch of tan fur on his hip that looks like a heart that makes him unique. He loves puperroni but doesn't care for many other treats--not even dog cookies! He does like cheese and turkey, though. Since he is a timid little guy, he needs to be adopted into a quiet home without young kids. Freddy is a really sweet dog and can't wait to live the rest of his life being treated the way all dogs should be treated--with nothing but pampering and love!
